7 Signs Your Website Is Losing You Customers

Slow pages, a broken mobile layout, no clear next step: seven warning signs your website is quietly sending customers to competitors.

An outdated website doesn't just look bad. It quietly sends customers to your competitors. Most business owners never notice, because lost visitors don't complain; they simply leave. Here are seven warning signs to check today.

1. It takes more than three seconds to load

Most visitors abandon a page that takes longer than about three seconds to load on mobile. Large images, cheap hosting and bloated themes are the usual culprits. Test your site with Google's free PageSpeed Insights tool.

2. It's hard to use on a phone

Most local searches happen on smartphones. If visitors have to pinch and zoom, or buttons are too small to tap, they leave. Google also ranks sites based on their mobile version, so a poor mobile experience hurts your rankings too.

3. Visitors can't tell what you do within five seconds

Your homepage should answer three questions immediately: what you offer, who it's for and where you are. Vague slogans like "Innovative solutions for tomorrow" don't do that. Be specific.

4. There's no clear next step

Every page needs one obvious action: call, book, request a quote or buy. If your phone number is hidden in the footer and there is no booking button, you're making customers work too hard.

5. It doesn't show up on Google

Search for your main service plus your city. If you can't find yourself, neither can your customers. Common causes are missing page titles, no local information, thin content and technical errors that stop Google from indexing the site.

6. The information is out of date

Old opening hours, past events, a copyright year from five years ago or broken links all tell visitors the business might not be active. Keep your site current, or have someone maintain it for you.

7. It doesn't build trust

No real photos, no reviews, no team, no address: visitors can't tell if you're legitimate. Show your work, your people and what your customers say about you.

How to fix it

Some of these are quick fixes; others are a sign it's time for a redesign. A modern website built for speed, mobile and search will usually outperform an old one within months. See what's included in our web design service, or read what a website costs in Belgium.
